Tequila Sunrise

The Tequila Sunrise is a drink from the 1970s, and like most drinks created in that era, it’s incredibly sweet and pretty to look at. For our modern take on the Tequila Sunrise, we like to add freshly squeezed orange juice, a quality tequila, and homemade grenadine. Unlike the versions available in the store, real grenadine is made from pomegranates; it is not at all difficult to make, and we’ve provided a recipe.

INGREDIENTS

2 ounces silver tequila

4 ounces freshly squeezed orange juice, strained to remove pulp

Orange slice and cherry, for garnish

½ ounce grenadine
(see recipe below)

METHOD

Add the tequila and orange juice to an ice-filled Highball glass. Stir gently, about three rotations. Add the grenadine; it will sink to the bottom, as it should. Garnish with the orange slice and cherry.
