The curious case of why this drink is named after Gotham is a mystery of the ages. To my mind, it’s not so very representative of the five boroughs, or the Empire State, for that matter. Limes don’t grow there, and neither do pomegranates (the main ingredient in grenadine). But the combination-a cross between a Gimlet and a Debutante, but with whiskey-works and is especially nice sipped while flipping steaks on the grill.

2 ounces bourbon
½ ounce freshly
squeezed lime juice
½ ounce simple syrup
1 barspoon grenadine
1 lime wedge

In a dry cocktail shaker (without ice), add the strawberry preserves, bourbon, balsamic syrup, and orange juice.
Shake well, 10 to 15 seconds.
Add ice and shake again, 10 seconds more.
Strain into an ice-filled rocks glass.
Top with club soda.
Garnish with the orange peel.
