First consumed in the late 1700s, the granddaddy of cocktails was traditionally served on Kentucky Derby Day. These days it’s a cocktail for the more discerning amongst us.

15 ml sugar syrup

3 fresh mint sprigs

60 ml bourbon

Muddle the sugar syrup, one mint sprig and the bourbon in a rocks glass. Add crushed ice and garnish with the remaining mint sprigs. Serve with two straws.

Mix It Up

For a different take on this classic, use brandy instead of bourbon to create a Brandy Mint Julep.
